Full Description
Montpellier keeps its best-known sights within a short walk of one another, which makes the city an easy choice for a family outing. On this private two-hour tour we cross the historic center at a pace built around children, from the lively squares of the old town to the monumental terrace above it. Entrance tickets to the monuments we visit are included, so the walk stays simple and unhurried.
We begin at Place de la Comédie, the broad pedestrian heart of Montpellier, where the Opéra Comédie and the Three Graces fountain give children their first landmarks. From there we walk to the Tour de la Babote, a surviving piece of the medieval fortifications, and follow the lanes towards the quarter of Saint-Roch, stopping at the church with its Gothic Revival façade and rose window.
The route continues over Place Jean-Jaurès and past the Carré Sainte-Anne, a former church now used for exhibitions, before climbing to the Cathedral of Saint-Pierre, whose monumental porch and two massive columns dominate the old medical quarter. Beside it, the Faculty of Medicine and the Jardin des Plantes open a green pause: the garden is the oldest botanical garden in France and gives children room to move between the beds.
We finish at the Promenade du Peyrou and the Arc de Triomphe, where the equestrian statue of Louis XIV, the Saint-Clément Aqueduct, and the widest view of the city close the walk. Because the tour is private, the route and the rhythm stay flexible: the guide works with families, parents take part throughout, and strollers are welcome along the way.
